Can Econotransfer create custom HTV designs?
Is HTV suitable for outdoor use?
Are there any special care instructions for garments with HTV applied?
Also consider the types of chemicals you’re using. You should avoid any harsh chemicals that can be found in bleaches and fabric softeners. These chemicals can break down the adhesive and cause peeling, but also drastically change the color of the HTV.
What tools and equipment are necessary for applying HTV?
Once cut you’ll need to weed the excess material from your iron-on vinyl transfer like a pair of weeding tweezers.
Finally when it comes to heat applying your transfer you’re going to need a heat press. This can be anything from an Auto-open HIX heat press, a Cricut easy press, or a household iron that can reach proper application temperatures.
Additional tools like Heat Press Pillows, PTFE sheets or parchment paper for vinyl pressing, aren’t necessary for all iron-on vinyl application methods but can certainly be helpful.
Does Econotransfer provide instructions on how to apply their HTV?
Yes! You can visit How to Use Heat Transfer Vinyl section of the Econotransfer website for comprehensive instructions for all Econotransfer Vinyl Films. This section has a list for Cricut Maker settings, Cricut Explore Air settings, Silhouette and Plotter cutter settings. You can also find information on time, temperature, and pressure for heat pressing your vinyl transfer.
We’ve also described the cut sides for our Puff Vinyl to avoid cutting the wrong side, and info on how to layer heat press vinyl! We will continue to update this page with any new settings, settings for new products, and more!
For even more information and instructions check out the Econotransfer YouTube Channel too!
What surfaces can Econotransfer HTV be applied to?
Some Econotransfer products can even be applied to nylon, rayon, spandex and leather.
Econotransfer heat press vinyl will also work on wood for coasters or wall hangers, and porcelain for mugs.
Can HTV be used on stretchy fabrics?
Absolutely! When applying HTV to stretchy fabrics it is important to keep in mind how much the garment will actually be stretching. At Econotransfer we off a stretchable vinyl called EconoStretch. This stretch iron on vinyl is designed with elasticity and high rebound in mind. If you have a garment or fabric like a stretchable table cloth for example that is going to be worn and pulled a lot, EconoStretch is the go to choice. However, a standard iron on vinyl like our EconoV can stretch and be applied to polyester and spandex garments, but it is not intentionally designed for stretchability. If your garment is not going to be worn or stretch much and is looser fitting this type of vinyl can be a good option as well. Shop EconoStretch.
Can I request a color chart for the available HTV options?
Econotransfer has a copy of our swatch booklet available on our website HERE. This swatch booklet is constantly updated whenever Econotransfer has new product releases. A copy of the swatch booklet will also be included with a purchase from Econotransfer. Additionally we offer a set of Swatch Pages available for purchase. This set will have a small sample of our material allowing you to get a better understanding of the visual and texture. Check out the Swatch Pages. Can HTV be layered to create multi-color designs?
Of Course, But… Multi-color designs with HTV is the next step in making amazing designs and offers endless possibilities. Not all HTV can be layered however. We have an HTV Layering Setting document that should help. It includes all Econotransfer HTV, whether they can be layered, and if they can be used as top or bottom layer!
Can I use an iron instead of a heat press for applying HTV?
YES. For most Econotransfer heat press vinyl an Iron or other tool like Cricut Easy press can be used and achieve results indistinguishable from using a heat press. There are a few things to keep in mind, however. Most Econotransfer HTV is recommended to be pressed at 300°F. The exceptions are EconoSub Vinyl and EconoPrint Inkjet. These films are recommended for 320°F. If your iron can’t reach these temperatures you can compensate by pressing the material for longer than our recommended pressing times.
HTV films that need to be pressed with higher pressures may also cause issues when using an Iron or easy press. Our Puff t-shirt vinyl is one example. We do have a video on Pressing Puff HTV with an Easy Press that will help overcome some of these issues.
Other than that feel free to use an iron if that’s all you have!
Can I request a color match for a specific Pantone or RGB colors?
On econotransfer.com each product and color will be listed with its closest Pantone Color Match and HEX code. You can also find all of that information in the Color Matching tab. Econotransfer can also produce a specific color if desired, but this will require a MOQ and will take a bit of time to complete.
Does Econotransfer offer any accessories or tools to assist in HTV applications?
And who would we be if we didn’t? Just vinyl sellers I guess…
Anyway, follow the link to check out our Press Essentials. We sell Heat Press Pillows to help with difficult areas, PTFE Sheets for Heat pressing, Weeding Tweezers, and more!
Can HTV be removed from garments once applied?
If you’ve ever made a mistake when applying your vinyl transfer to your garments, and who hasn’t, there are a few ways to remove it and try again. One way is to use something like Alba-Chem Vinyl Letter Removing Solvent. This VLR is a solvent designed to dissolve the adhesive on the back of any HTV film so that it can be removed easily from the garment.
Another potential way to get HTV off of a shit is to simply re-press the material with a PTFE Sheet. After the material is repressed the adhesive should be melted again and the vinyl can be removed if you do it quickly enough. The downside to this as opposed to VLR is that the adhesive doesn’t dissolve and may leave a residue on the garment that may take a wash or two to get rid of.
Can I apply HTV to hats and other headwear?
Yes, you can and for that process we would recommend using a hat press such as the B-250 Cap Press. Our HTV can be applied to fitted hats, trucker hats, snapbacks, beanies, bandanas, bucket hats, visors, and more.
Are there any specific washing instructions for garments with HTV applied?
Also consider the types of chemicals you’re using. You should avoid any harsh chemicals that can be found in bleaches and fabric softeners. This chemicals can break down the adhesive and cause peeling, but also drastically change the color of the HTV.
Can I request a color change or replacement for an HTV product that did not turn out as expected?
Our return policy can be found through the “Shipping and Returns Policy” portal on the Econotransfer Website.
The most common reason for returning is a return due to change of mind. In this case we will happily accept returns within 30 days of receipt as long as the items are unused, undamaged and resellable condition. Once Econotransfer receives the item a refund will be issued in the form of store credit to be used on a future purchase and notify the customer once this process is complete.
What is the recommended method for cutting HTV designs? Are there any tools or techniques that Econotransfer recommends?
We don’t have any strong recommendations for your method of cutting HTV besides what works best for you and your current project.
If you are using HTV vinyl for multiple larger pieces it will be more efficient to use a plotter like a USCutter, Graphtec or Titan. If one of these isn’t available for you you can still use a vinyl craft cutter but it will take longer.
No matter what you prefer to use we do have settings to help you get adjusted for your cutter, whether it be a Cricut explore, Silhouette Cameo, or plotter cutter for vinyl found on our How to Use page.
And remember to ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS run a test cut before cutting your full design.
Can I use HTV on garments with pockets, collars, or other embellishments?
Yes. Although pockets, zippers, buttons, and seams can be hard to work with when using HTV there is one easy solution. Heat Press Pillows!
A Heat Press pillow inside or underneath the working area on your garment will act to distribute heat and pressure more evenly making vinyl application a breeze.
Can I use HTV on garments with existing graphics or patterns?
As long as the existing graphics, designs, or patterns on the garment can be heat pressed and layered on top of, you can add HTV to them.
Depending on the graphics you may need to use something like a PTFE Sheet to protect the garment from exposure to the heat press.
Are there any special requirements for applying HTV to dark fabrics?
No, unlike with Sublimation on dark garments, there are no special requirements for applying vinyl on dark clothing.
The only time when applying HTV to a dark garment may cause issues is if it is semi-transparent vinyl film. In these cases like with EconoChameleon, EconoHolo Rainbow, and some EconoFlex colors, the darker the color underneath of the HTV will cause it to look different after it is pressed.
Does Econotransfer offer any promotions or discounts for bulk orders?
Can I request a custom color not currently available in Econotransfer's HTV options?
No, however Econotransfer does offer the EconoPrint selection where you can print the color you desire on the printable heat transfer vinyl with either Solvent, Eco-Solvent or latex inks, as well this is something that you can do with Econotransfer sublimatable vinyl call EconoSub Vinyl, just make sure to use sublimation inks.
Orders for custom colors require a MOQ, a deposit, and will take time to produce. If you would like to inquire about this option, please contact our office at (302)365-6664.
